DEZERTER

Dezerter is a punk rock band, founded in May of 1981, in Warsaw.  At first the band was called SS-20 (after Soviet ballistic missiles), a provocative name at the time, so it had to be changed during the Martial Law.  Under the name Dezerter the band recorded its first single „Ku przyszłości” [“To the Future”] (1983). In 1985 two compilation albums were issued that included Dezerter’s songs: „Fala” [“Wave” or “Hazing”] and „Jak punk to punk” [“Let’s Have Punk”]. The year 1987 brought the first Dezerter LP, released by Maximum Rock'n'Roll in the U.S.  – „Underground Out Of Poland” and the first album released in Poland (in a censored form) – „Kolaboracja” [“Collaboration”]. In 1989 there was another album out   – „Kolaboracja II” [„Collaboration II”], and in 1990 – „Wszyscy przeciwko wszystkim” [„All Against All”] (released in Poland and in France) followed by a two month tour of Western Europe (Switzerland, Germany, France, Holland) and of Japan.

The subsequent years of band’s activity brought important records for Polish independent scene, including   „Blasfemia” [“Blasphemy”] (1992), „Ile procent duszy?” [“How Many Percent of Soul?”] (1994), „Mam kły mam pazury” [„I Have Fangs I Have Claws”](1996), „Ziemia jest płaska” [„The Earth Is Flat”] (1997). In the 21st century there were three studio albums out: „Nielegalny zabójca czasu” [„Illicit Time Killer”] (2004); „Prawo do bycia idiotą” [„The Right To Be An Idiot”] (2010), it was especially appreciated not only by the listeners but by the music industry too, it has received the Fryderyk Award in 2010; and „Większy zjada mniejszego” [“The Big Eats The Small”] (2014).

The band is active playing not only at home but in many European countries (Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain, Finland) and in the United States.

Throughout the years Dezerter’s songs appeared on many Polish and worldwide compilation records and were used as soundtrack for several movies.
